Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

Uh-oh! Do I have to revise my opinion about the NY Times?

EDIT1: Oops! I unthinkingly violated an AA rule by reprinting the whole article, so I've now edited it so that only excerpts are included - the link to the original article is of course still at the bottom.

EDIT2: Looks like I didn't do enough editing the first time around - it seems that forum rules allow for only a few sentences to be quoted in a post. Maybe this is a learning experience for us all?

It seems that Anthony Tommasini agrees with me about Lang Lang's mutilation of the Goldberg Variations! ;-)

On a new recording of Bach's "Goldberg" Variations, the superstar artist stretches the music beyond taste. Lang Lang's [. . . ] indulgences appear from the first measures.
I'm not a big fan of Jeremy Denk though, and I STILL haven't heard the Beatrice Rana recording (both of whom are referred to in Tommasini's review). (It's also ironic that Lang Lang's trashy recording of the Goldbergs appeared so near to when I discovered Craig Sheppard's patrician recording of the work (thread below).

BTW, I'm including the NY Times link, even though, as usual, I'm blocked there myself - LOL!
