I always thought that was a pretty good bit, especially when Michaels suggested that they could split it up any way they chose, maybe paying Ringo less.
The interesting part of that for Beatle fans is that according to John Lennon in his 1980 Playboy interview, Paul McCartney happened to be visiting him at his Dakota apartment in NYC that night.
Lennon had the show on, and he and McCartney heard the offer. He said they joked, "Wouldn't it be funny if we jumped in a taxi and went down there?" But Lennon admitted that he was too tired.
Given the way history played out, that would have been the greatest walk-on in the history of television.
