for the Vecteur L4The Vecteur L4 is a marvel of a transport, providing exceptional timbre, soundstaging, and bass. When listening to a violin, harmonica, or cymbal, the instruments are in the room with me. Perhaps because of the rich bass foundation, every instrument and voice has weight and a 3-D presence. Whether I'm listening to vocal jazz, opera, folk, classical, or Broadway, I feel like I'm at the venue, watching the show.
I've auditioned several other player/transports of note (most recently the Audiomat 9000cdt, Arcam 5, Cary CD 500, and the Atoll DR200 CD Transport), and the Vecteur just towers over them all in its ability to present a natural, powerful, lush, and timbrally accurate soundscape.
In addition to being exceptional in its ability to present natural sounding voices and instruments, the L4 has such prodigious bass that it gets my toes tapping and heart racing ... while the other transports I auditioned just left me sitting still in the sweetspot.
I know the L4 is not readily available these days (I purchased mine in 2003), but if you ever get the chance to audition or purchase one, I highly recommend it.
Side note: Vecteur's D-2 was the first to achieve notoriety (excellent reviews by fellow asylum members). The L4 is the D-2's big brother, and the L4.2 is the flagship reviewed here: https://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0603/vecteurl42.htm#gsc.tab=0
