The test had nothing to do with absolute accuracy or calibrating an audio system.

The goal was to replicate the setup used by the OP to debunk his claim that upgrading the iPhone to iOS 18 broke SPL meters causing them to read way too high. He used pink noise from a YouTube video so I used the exact same source.

In my testing iOS 18 read the same as iOS 17.7 which read the same as a dedicated SPL meter. iOS 18 breaks SPL meters debunked.


I could try discrete frequencies at some point but I still would not use a SPL meter to 'calibrate' my audio system. I might use the meter for relative SPL readings for channel balance or source leveling in which case any meter with repeatable results will do.
