First, many years ago I read a suggestion that used gear value starts at around 50% of new cost. Then that may be adjusted up or down depending on age, condition, popularity (demand), and whether still in production or not. That includes a lot of variables so is a pretty broad guideline.
Second, regarding digital playback components, I've seen many cautions about laser life. That makes sense, but apparently there has been a variety in quality with laser construction. I have a Sony 707 ES CD player used moderately for more than 20 years with the original laser. So that makes me wonder about quality variation.
