RE: Why oh why....

I have run into some performances that are not available to stream. It's a rarity, but it has happened. I've gotten to the point that I rarely buy CD's (and my TT is mothballed) but I do on occasion. Most recent purchase was a 10 CD box of Mozart Piano Concertos. I bought it because, while it is available to stream, the format was AWFUL, with a haphazard organization of the pieces. The collection was cheap, and in this instance the sound is much better on disc than the streaming version. I have no idea why that's the case, and I'm no golden ear and I can't usually hear much difference. A funny anecdote (to me anyway) on this collection is one of the emblems (sponsor?) on the box is Miele. Yes, the appliance co. (we have a vacuum) I've never seen that before.

One question I have is why do people purchase downloads? I have bought a couple, for comparison sake, but I don't think I'd really "invest" in purchasing downloads. More $$$ going to the artist? Streaming is good enough for me.

I have a few hundred LP's, and many more CD's (no idea the actual count) and I haven't gotten to the point of getting rid of my collection. I don't know if that makes me a hoarder or not. I probably could just donate them to the library for a tax deduction (CD's anyway, they won't take LP's) as opposed to selling them, which would be a pain. I might get a dollar or two from the used record store. There's not much market (sadly) for classical.
