"But it seems a lot of them think they are. And that is at the very root of what this guy was making fun of."
Quite possible..... Although most "training" in my experiences is getting familiar with how the real thing sounds like, at actual concerts..... Nothing to do "magazines" that you're referring to......
And I still have hope that Betty is a real audiophile..... I mean, having her over, and dictating to me what's wrong with the sound of my system, and then provide ideas to fix it..... ;-]
"Audiophiles have been taught by magazines to do the exact opposite of what works when auditioning anything in audio."
What exactly does work, may I ask?
"And that is how you sell magic rocks and $40K power cords to audiophiles."
Was that a poke at..... Uhhh..... Never mind...... [-;
"Convincing them to use the worst possible protocols for making comparisons."
Mind you, the magic rocks will not work without the $40k power cords....... ;-p
"Trained listeners are actually trained. They are not home schooled by themselves based on what they read in audio magazines or watched on Youtube."
What would constitute a listener being "actually trained?" .........
Are there schools out there which provide such a training curriculum? A lot of us hack audiophiles could use a better education.......
