RE: I've never been a Clapton fan and i'm not going to start now.

Regarding his racists "days": It was dismissed a long time ago for the right reasons: His actions. But he explained that it was during his darkest throws of addiction. The amount of alcohol and heroin he was consuming is mind numbing. He didn't make excuses and apologized in the most serious and sincere manner. He stated he doesn't remember and can't believe it was him saying those things. Again, his actions prove his sincerity with his Guitar Festivals and ongoing commitments to substance abuse charities not to mention his unwavering support from the artists that know him. You will have to look long and hard to find musicians critical of his artistry or his righteousness. Being unforgiving is a weapon of Cancel Culture.

Regarding Medical Science...- An artist's questioning authority is natural and desperately lacking these days. It is my humble opinion that your personal Doctor should be the most important arbiter of medical advice and certainly not politicians or artists. If you aren't skeptical of either one of these sources, you are a fool looking for a religion.
Institutional scientists of late created their own public skepticism by taking a knee to political hacks. Today's Science reminds me a lot of Religion. Zealots use it to control the population. Which is a shame because public health and environmental issues need to be contemplated in the most credible context possible. Discussing complex issues in binary terms (good and evil or globalists and denier) is not the path to truth or consensus.

Criticism of Eric Clapton's playing always gets a healthy eye roll from me. It's usually one of two types of people: the internet troll or the pseudo intellect who criticizes music he doesn't like in the first place. I don't like classical violinists, but I would never criticize Itzhak Perlamn. That would be absurd. And the argument about the white guy playing blues is equally absurd. Have you ever criticized a Japanese artist or any "brown" colored person for playing Bach? That would be ridiculous...- but somehow a white guy shouldn't play the Blue's?? More definitive proof of the fuzzy thinking and hypocrisy of the woke culture.
If Clapton is such a musical hack and racists, why do legends like Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry and Branford Marsalis think the world of him. The list of his admiring Giants goes on and on: Eddie Van Halen, Duane Allman, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and etc., etc.. . He's a musician's musician and legend's legend. I'll believe my own ears and these icons and ignore the troll and the idiot savant.

His phrasing and tone is exquisite. I love the guitar hero virtuoso stuff with Cream and Derick and the Dominoes and his incredibly tasteful laid back tapestry of fills and grooves in his Tulsa sound. What bandwidth! Not crazy about his 80's and 90's output but his career spans 60 years... And I don't like much of anything from the 80's and 90's . Maybe Dire Straits which is a knock off of Clapton's earlier Tulsa sound:)

Here's three excellent Clapton video's which I think covers a breadth of his capabilities.

"While my Guitar Gently Weeps", "Concert for George". His singing and playing is top shelf as confirmed by the reaction of satisfaction on the faces of Jeff Lynne and Paul McCartney. Not to mention his band leading and composing abilities. How many of these all hands on stage performances suck! This one is phenomenal and beautifully captures the love in the room for George's music...- 4 drummers and all!

Here, an older Clapton, going toe to toe with two "young guns", Warren Haynes and Derick Trucks. His playing is simultaneously as powerful as it is tasteful. He always plays to the emotion of the song and is never showy or pretentious. Which is one reason why he is one of the few guitar gods that women love as well.

And finally, a nod to the Tulsa sound. JJ is mostly known for his song writing but he is one of my favorite guitarists. It has a rawness and tone that is just butter. Clapton is the perfect vessel to take it to the next level. If Cale is a 67 Mustang then Clapton is a Ferrari purring along in 2nd gear. Restrained and refined with horsepower to spare. I can listen to this for hours on end. Check out John Mayer peaking over the speakers spying on his heroes...- pretty cool.
