RE: 220 TO 110 TRANSFORMER FOR OLDER PREAMP

No. The 240 volts in the US is split phase. It works like an amp in bridged mode.

Units from overseas where the standard is 240 or 230 or whatever, it is that voltage on the hot and a neutral. Not 120 split out of polarity.

For a preamp this is not really a problem. Just get transformers for 120 that have secondaries that add up to 120, then put them in series. Don't do this on a power amp, there are more concerns.
