Reminds me of some of the disputes...

...I've read about between classical composers. Sometimes they did not like their contemporaries.

For example, Tchaikovsky did not admire Brahms. From his 10/9/1886 diary entry: "Played over the music of that scoundrel Brahms. What a giftless bastard! It irritates me that this self-conscious mediocrity should be recognized as a genius."

Or in a similar vein, Richard Strauss was not popular with some of his contemporaries. Cesar Cui said "His absurd cacophony will not be music in the thirtieth century" while Stravinsky described Strauss' opera "Der Rosenkavalier" as "cheap and poor."
