We now have multiple high end audio shows taking place at strategic locations around the US, with the same premise:
Plan a show, force interested parties to attend, hope for the best. To me this is a reactive approach.
The industry has sought ways to expand beyond the converted, and to promote the pursuit of high end audio as a mainstream activity. There have been successes in product placement into mainstream media. But those are static displays, often in the background. There have been partnerships to place KEF, Meridian, B&W, Levinson systems into high end automobiles. (I would like to see survey results looking for a correlation between purchases of home equipment by owners of luxury auto containing high end audio systems from companies mentioned above).
What is needed is for the industry to become proactive. I suggest that the industry needs to go to where people are found and tend to congregate, rather than force people to come to isolated displays.
IMHO the industry or a coalition of several industry members needs to recreate the AR listening showroom at Grand Central Station. Create several of these stand alone demonstration rooms at key locations in the US- where lots and lots of people could potentially come into contact with high end audio, in an a non threatening environment, without the commitment required by dedicating an entire today to walk through a crowded hotel.
Yes there will be an upfront cost, but I predict the expenditure will go a long way to positioning high end audio as a mainstream pursuit.
