Equi-Core 1200: 48 hour report

I purchased an Equi Core 300 after inserting my PS Audio Dectet ($499) which was on my TV system to my main audio system, replacing a 10 year old Premier Power Plant that was making noise. The Dectet made my system sound way better, so I contacted PS Audio, but the cost to ship, bench time, let alone repair and return was about the price of the EC 300, including a WireWorld Power Strip. In my opinion a no brainer

I was very curious to hear how the EC 300 would compare to the Dectet: it is/was jaw dropping to a point. That point being my system which draws more juice than the EC 300 could handle, especially on large scale music, but duets, trios small scale music was/is terrific

System: Oppo 105 CD player, Parasound P5 preamp, 2 Emerald Physics 100.2SE amps, and 2 SVS powered subs, Emerald Physics KCIIs (internally wired with WireWorld), which are 94 dB efficient.

Enter the EC 1200, which has 4 duplexes. According to Equi-Core, break in for a minimum of 50 hours but after 150 hours the sonic improvement is said to be outstanding. I decided to put the 4 amps on the 1200 to begin the break-in period, but leave the cd player, preamp and BOMB on the EC 300, plugged directly into my 20 amp dedicated line. After about an hour I plugged the 300 into the 1200 as well. This was a sonic step backwards, but after a couple hours the 1200 began to loosen up, the combination sounded much better. I decided to leave the 2 this way to expedite break-in of the 1200. 24 hours later the 1200 loosened up considerably.

Now roughly 48 hours later, I have a good handle on what the 1200 brings to the party- power and authority. I liken it to an auto analogy. For anyone who has not experienced what lots of V8 torque feels like, it shoves you back into your seat while putting a huge smile on your face. So imagine that translated into music enjoyment.

I bet the 300 will perform similarly in a simpler system. Once I pass 150 hours I will unplug the 300 and plug the Oppo and preamp directly into the 1200. If that works I will move the 300 to my tv system

Getting back to what the 1200 is doing here, top to bottom all instruments have more punch, texture, richness of tone, and harmonic rightness, no doubt in part due to scrubbing away the dirty electrical nasties that so interfere with our music enjoyment

Will report back after 100 hours or so
