Class D amps can wipe out TV reception as well

I had a pair of Class D monoblocks several years ago in our previous home. They were in my AV rack along with my Cable TV DVR. Here's a Cable box that gets its hefty signal directly from the cable company over shielded RG6U coax and not some weak over-the-air distant RF.

Whenever those Class D amps were ON they would wipe out at least 1/2 dozen TV stations. It affected some FM reception as well. The amp manufacturer told me that the most likely cause were the speaker cables from the amp to my speakers acting as radiating antennas. Nice.

Of course no audiophile (or reviewer) would ever notice this in a purely audio setup, but those Class D amps in my AV setup were worthless. Wiped out cable TV channels and several FM stations.

This is a prime example of radiated EMI/RFI (as apposed to conducted EMI which is direct coupled by other means like the AC line).
