RollingStone gave it a so-so review but most buyers on Amazon.com appear to enjoy it and gave the album 4 or 5 Stars with good writeups. It's not an 'exciting' album but probably not meant to be. It's a little subdued but I like it!
I had no idea who J.J. Cale was up until a few years ago. I've been buying the Eric Clapton: Crossroads Guitar Festival DVDs which feature various artists. I saw J.J. Cale performing "After Midnight" and "Call Me the Breeze" on one of the DVDs from around 2004.
I never saw him live but was fortunate to see Leon Russell at the small Boulder Theatre venue near Denver a few years ago. We waited by Leon's tour bus after the show so my wife could get an autographed Leon t-shirt. ;-)
