RE: Bored - Time for a change - New system

you should indeed look into big studio monitors like (duh) Altec, TAD, Urei time-align's, JBL et al. Why not look up some (big) recording studio's in your area and ask what they’re running - and if you can audition. These folks are more than likely to give you a chance to listen to a couple of tracks (likely CD - but it will be enough to get the idea). If you have a way to burn some stuff from vinyl to CD-R, even better.
If you like what you hear be prepared for active crossovers and separate amps for the drivers, this is key to the performance of these speakers.
I can tell you from my own experience that listening to an album on the same monitor it was likely mixed on is an exhilarating experience all in its own class.
BTW: This is the problem with most music on CD’s – instead of hiring the engineers that did the album on vinyl the record companies just stuck some kids in cubicles and had them “re-master” the thing. On less than desirable equipment to boot.
