By competing with each other they give us better products at better prices. I do hope that the final decision includes a preamble by the court compassing that whole reason for firms.
EG. treating them as if they were a single person legal entity, and then not being able to gaol / hang the whole company! ;-) Nor nail the persons responsible "it wasn't ME, it was him' in chorus, as they run out the door with their golden handshake.
It's called 'the theory of the firm' for those without economics training.
In my career I read a LOT of special pleading from firms and whole industries, and professions, bitching about competition, or defending anti-competitive arrangements, the poor ickle fings.
"Please let us keep doing things the way WE do it, and make these others who have come up with cheaper/better stuff stop it, PLEASE!"
