... not only chooses his or her gear most prudently, but who also listens most intently and passionately. In this solitary hobby, *elitism* would be difficult to quantify. But, I'm pretty sure that if it exists at all it is on the crown of the individual. It is not to be found within the confines of some group or organization. I have owned bigger and more expensive systems in the past but I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed the sound of my systems more than I do today. The biggest revelation for me has been how satisfying a headphone system costing less than 3K total can sound, and I've been doing a lot more headphone listening as of late. The satisfaction I am now getting from my budget systems is so great that I have little desire to *upgrade*, in order to gain some real or imagined measure of status within the (so-called) "audiophile community".
