I've not been homeless yet, but have come close many times. I try to buy equipment that offers the finest sound quality I can afford, this usually means clearance, demo, used or industrial accommodation. However nothing can be more fulfilling to those who don't own much than leaving reality and enjoying music, to me it is better than the other vices poor people use to escape such as alcohol and drugs.
As part of the lower class whose wages are going down (not up), being forced to giveback benefits to employers we enjoyed in the past including matching 401k contributions, insurance, etc. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I don't resent the existence 25k stereos as that is really upper middle class. But I do resent 10 million dollar houses, 24k gold toilet seats and other unnecessary things that the ultra rich waste their ill gotten booty they stole from the poor and middle classes on.
I can afford a 3K stereo and new recordings because I don't own a car, live in a one room studio apartment in which I share the kitchen with three other renters and have no other luxuries. Great music and video are my vices.
