Having at one time been in the business, I sold several systems to folks that "dropped big money" and were in no way audiophiles. They were spending the money simply because they could. Not particularly rational, but rich folks, like poor folks, are not always rational with their money.
Its no different than a rich person who can't tell the difference between Korbel and Dom Perignon, but will always order the Dom Perignon because that's what rich people are supposed to do.
Lots of folks spends tons of money on things they have absolutely no appreciation for ...simply because they can.
