RE: it was inevitable; the apocalypse is upon us and the loonies have taken over the asylum

Apparently, many folks, including me, thought the spoof threads were hilarious. It's too bad the mods have taken them down, although I can see how they didn't really fit the 'mission' of the asylum. Kudos to 2ch, Liz, and others who started and contributed to them.

This post was going to be about forum traffic, advertising, and users. I was going to note that many posts were critical of Dutz' penchant for starting new threads - often without any clear reason or point - on a nearly daily basis and then not participating in the replies, and that a large number of replies to the spoofs and the 'real deal' threads stated how silly or uninteresting Dutz' threads are. But I got to thinking: If a person is uninterested in the thread, why do they bother to post and say so? Why not just ignor it? Anyway, I got to thinking: What drives advertising revenue? Hits. Views. Traffic. Despite all the complaining etc., there's no denying that the Dutz phenomenon resulted in more views and posts than any other thread topic in the General Asylum in recent months.

Too bad there isn't a way for the mods to simply "lock" a thread and say "sorry, no new posts", so that everyone's hard work and creativity wouldn't be simply tossed in the trash, like my third grade teacher always did - not that that had any effect on my mental development. :)
