Given the cost of "high end" components, most people could barely afford to buy two loudspeakers and two channels of amplification in that category. Also, multi-channel systems use up more space in the living room. For me, it might come down to space considerations and/or a sense of pride. Let's say you had $20,000 to spend on a sound system. Which would you rather buy - two high end channels to clutter up one side of your living room, or six low end channels to clutter up all four sides?
