I would say the average basement-dwelling "kid" around here drives a MB (preferred), a BMW, or a Honda. Not a wealthy area by any means, solidly middle middle-class.
You should check out the spending habits of under-30s these days. They're really big into depreciating (or consumable) assets. Very different from "our" time. Explains a lot of the advertising we see/hear. The BMW and MB ads are aimed at these kids. Seriously. I am so clued out, but can't help notice that MB is the new Civic or Sunfire in these parts. Can't say it's not a step up to my eyes...
Now if he had asked about a $50k stereo IN a $50k BMW. Also, $50k doesn't buy much of a BMW these days, well nothing that interests me anyway, and I *do* think $50k for a car is not trivial.
