Perhaps you haven't heard it yet. That's not an insult.
I have heard "The Band" since its initial release on hundreds of different combinations of equipment, from dorm room blasters to multi-thousand dollar tube amps/speakers. Only recently did I marvel at hearing the HUMOR in Levon Helm's vocals. I can hear him smiling as he sings "Rag Mama Rag."
The other night I heard the Jupiter Symphony with more "meaning" in it. Same recording I've listened to for 20 plus years, but there seemed to be something in the music beyond the mere sounding of the notes. Purely a coincidence that this topic gets broached now, but I remarked on it at the time to some other listeners.
By the way, my current system is by far not the most expensive I've owned. In fact, everything after the preamp is homemade and relatively inexpensive. The accuracy and the musicality it provides, the emotion, the meaning, if you will, is the best I've heard.
Of course, the reviewers would have you believe that you can never achieve that level of performance without spending a fortune, and many dupes fall for the ploy. They're only doing their job, but the premise is valid even if their conclusion is not. I understand now that a better system, not necessarily the most expensive one, will provide more meaning to the music.
