I think that the debate IS largely contained to the gear, - instead of the experience.
What we have mostly, are people who believe that all equipment sounds the same unless there is an engineering "mistake:" vs artisans who design equipment to idiosyncratically reflect their own "take/interpretation" on the recording.
Objectivists actually don't exist, because it ALL is value judgment or interpretation when a piece of gear is built. This is really, really, irritating to naysayers because for them, it opens the door for chaos, - and nothing is more annoying to the certaintist than chaos.....
