Your experience is with the older model PSA regenerators. So was mine. My old PSA P300s got hot as hell with practically nothing plugged in to them. The new P5 and P10 models (at least the P10) stay stone cold when they're on but not "working." They will display the distortion of incoming AC as well as the (much lower) distortion of the regenerated power. The P10 has made for a major sonic improvement of my SET amps compared to running them from (1) the wall or (2) a Tice Power Block III. And FWIW, if my P10 has a fan, I've never heard it.
