I believe I owned the first pair of his amps which he sold to me at cost. I thought they were really excellent sounding amps. Very clean, very clear and transparent but they did not produce the kind of power that I thought was necessary to replicate a live listening experience for the kind of music I enjoy. (Jeff Beck, Steve Morse, Dixie Dregs, Jan Hammer, etc.)
As a machinist, CADCAM programer and a successful business man who started and ran his own business for 13 years before deciding I wanted to focus on becoming mechanically skilled, I did not agree with his packaging or marketing of his amps. When I use to live in the New Haven, Connecticut area, were we were both born, I machined face plates for Krell. It would not have cost that much more to make his amps look like a Krell and I believe that and more power would have helped make his amps more marketable.
Like I am, my brother was a very difficult person who I frequently disagreed vehemently with. I lent him a lot of money when I was first successful in business even though I was much younger. I never felt he appreciated it. He had a lot of talent and I wish growing up we had been closer because we had a lot of similar interests. It was his choice not to foster the similar interests or mentor me in any way so I did the best I could to develop my own mechanical talents on my own despite the fact that our parents didn't exactly encourage mechanical. Perhaps this is the part of the reason both of us have / had a good deal of anger to deal with.
