Help! My amp eats tubes!

199.174.206.42

I have a conrad johnson MV50. It's 45 watts of classic tube amplifier, about 10 years old. Though I love this amp, it eats tubes with gusto. I've been feeding it Penta tubes,(= relabeled Teslovaks?) at the rate of one every two months or so. Usage of the amp is about 5 hours per day. And I've called conrad johnson twice in 3 years asking if something is wrong with my amp. They tell me with 99% certainty that it's a tube problem. Of course they want me to buy their hand tested Sovtek EL34s at $30 bucks a pop. Instead I bought fresh Svetlanas at $15 bucks apiece mail order, & popped em into their sockets. Within 5 minutes, I hear a loud crack and see bright light flashing inside a fresh tube. Am I just having bad luck, or do I need to consult an amp doctor? Please, somebody clue me in and help me solve this problem. Meanwhile ... living without music.
