I first met Allen in Sydney in about 1982 when he was playing around with a live end-dead end room, and I heard an early version of the Real Time preamp, and of course, his amazing AM tuner. He rebuilt a preamp for me - which I still own.
I made several visits to VSE in Schaffhausen in the last few years, looking at and listening to the final incarnation of the Real Time, hearing his modifications to the older Sony SACD players, plus his new board for the 5400 and the Uber Clock and Terra Firma Lite. He was excited that his new amp, grown out of the lovely dpa-300, could actually drive the Scintillas.
He was a great bloke, a talented designer and a passionate music lover. He will be very much missed, but the legacy of his designs will live on.
My condolences to his partner, family and friends, and all associated with VSE around the world.
Regards,
Geoff
