I am sorry to hear you think that. Look, Source Interlink Media publishes
about 80 magazines, one of which is Stereophile. Each magazine has an
editorial department and an advertising sales department, and each
operates autonomously and they are based all over the country. Stereophile's
editorial and advertising offices, for example, are based in New York.
However, there are separate departments dedicated to a service that is
shared across all 80 magazines: "Manufacturing," which covers prepress,
printing, and paper buying and is is based in Los Angeles; "Circulation,"
which handles newsstand sales and subscriptions and is in Florida; Accounts
Payable, which is in Pennsylvania; and Accounts Receivable, which is in Illinois.
There are no direct managerial reporting lines between any of these
individual departments. As I said, while I can and do pass on my opinions
about what is being done in the magazine's name, I have no authority to
demand that a change be made. I am not trying to duck responsibility,
merely trying to explain where the limits of my authority lie.
