I just bought a set of speakers from a guy that refused to use paypal, and also refused to take a personal check without a crazy amount of "hold period".I was not expecting it to take so long to get my speakers and in the frustration I wired the money via western union. I didn't get shafted, luckily, and it wasn't too much money, but I sure do appreciate the safety and convenience of paypal.
Paypal and credit are the best tools we have for dealing online, they aren't perfect but that isn't a good reason to stay living in the past.
If you just don't like using credit, you have check cards, you have virtual credit cards, you have direct withdrawl, and all can be used with paypal... and they all offer some sort of fraud protection.
I am not going to shill anymore for paypal, but I am going to say this: Nothing sucks more than having to wait weeks and weeks to get an item when paying via snail mail. The only thing that sucks more than that is getting your payment stolen, yet all of these things can be avoided quite easily by using you know what.
