World's best satellite radio receiver?

A Dish Network TV receiver? I’m serious.

I recently got an upgraded receiver for my Dish satellite and I am astounded at the better quality of the audio, particularly the Sirius music channels.

First, this is not to say that XM or Sirius is CD-quality sound etc, but this is the best I’ve heard satellite radio for sure. I’ve had XM service for over 5 years including a Polk XRt12 reference tuner. I’m a fan of the channel selections. And for quite a while I have received the Sirius music channels as a bonus with my satellite Dish Network programming package. It was just there and I’ve enjoyed checking it out from time to time but I didn’t think it was that great through my audio systems.

But about a month ago I upgraded my Dish receiver to a new model HD unit with a DVR and I’ve been enjoying all the new HD channels and the DVR and didn’t pay too much attention to the audio. It is a “VIP-622 DVR”, MPEG2 compatible model receiver unit. And now I can’t believe how much better the sound quality is. Amazing change. The Sirius channels have much better depth, soundstage, and air than before. (I play the signals through my Yamaha/Mirage surround system from an optical digital cable with PCM Dolby Pro Logic/II or through analog L/R’s to my big McIntosh 2ch stereo. It is much better than before on either system).

So if you have a Dish Network receiver and have upgraded or plan to upgrade then you have a pleasant surprise in store. It sure surprised me.
