... poor you. There are a couple of shops up in the old town off Place Bourg de Four. The selection is somewhat limited and expensive. Across from the cathedral there's a very good jazz record/cd shop. FNAC has a shop for chain-brand AV stuff as well as CDs, and there's a Media Markt in Meyrin.
If you are an expat, you can often do better by directly contacting distributors. I picked up a REL Strata new for about 70% of list price, delivered. But Genf is a small town so the selection of almost everything (except watches) is somewhat limited. Better selection in Paris.
I lived in the french suburbs for 9 years (Sergy, population 900, due north of Geneve nestled against the Jura.) Lovely place to live and outstanding quality of life. The people in france are exceptionally warm and friendly. The Suisse are, well, Suisse. But somewhat more outgoing in Geneve than elsewhere in Switzerland.
The food is really excellent, with marche's in surrounding france carrying lots of produce. There are some marvellous restos, particularly in france.
Enjoy.
