I had thought about building a magnetic levitation rack for some time. It'd be tough witout dedicated equipment to measure the (potential negative) effect the magnetic field would have on equipment. I had figured (assumptions only) that the rack would have to be unwieldingly large to avoid any such issues. Also, a ton of time would have to be spent on different weights of components and their effect on the rack. I would imagine if this racks shelves are fully levitated, different weight pieces would not react the same way. So each shelf and it's accompanying magnets/magnet strength would have to be designed/adjusted specifically for the component that will reside upon it. I'd think the shelves would have to have as little magnetic pressure as possible to avoid it essentially reacting similar to that of a solid rack.
Just ranting.... it'd be very cool for sure. How well would it work....?
