Silly connection question !

70.136.155.194

I would like to connect a Yamaha S90 synthesizer keyboard to my computer soundcard for recording and be able to monitor during recording. The S90 has analog outs that I plug directly to the M-Audio 2496 soundcard, but I have to use headphones to monitor. So far, several combinations of connections and settings trying the S90 to soundcard and then the soundcard out to preamp for the monitoring haven't solved this. I like the idea of connecting the S90 directly to the soundcard for the best sound, but I'm missing something. Setting the 2496 soundcard to "monitor/mixer" doesn't work.

Would this work and not degrade the sound: S90 to Preamp Tape In > Preamp Tape Out to 2496 and set preamp to Monitor? I have to ask on this one instead of trying it as I don't have interconnects long enough to connect them in this way until a pair of 4.5M Audioquest IC's arrive.

I'm new to the synthesizer world and I've only ever done acoustic recording, always just running the microphone preamplifier output to the soundcard. In this use I didn't have monitoring as I don't like headphones when playing.

The S90 is an amazing device but so complex I'm only using 10% of it's capabilities.

Thanks ! -Blazmo
