when I was looking. My take. 640C was a good player, but for my system I liked the NAD 541i better. Between the 640C and 840C - I do not recall the sonic upgrade (if any) was worth the difference. Going with the 640C may free some $$ up for other goodies or better speakers per the speakers are the most important component for overall system sound approach. Or just save the $$. What a novel concept.
