"Blu-Ray (and HD DVD) discs cost $20 to $25 at Best Buy. Most collectible DVDs are around there too. And When DVDs came out 12 years ago (?), prices were $20 to $25 dollars, up until only about 5 years ago. Adjusted for inflation, the new formats are already kicking butt price-wise."
DVD was obviously superior to VHS in picture quality, sound quality, usability and compactness, so the increase in price over VHS could be justified.Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are basically just 'better' DVDs and unless the price of the software comes down to something approaching DVD both will fail miserably IMO.
