I think you and many others in AA suffer from a SACD/DVD Audio battle burnout.Compared to Europe, a 50" or 60" RPTV was normal and cheap in USA.
On such a big screen NTSC looks bad, and HDTV look clearly better.
HDTV is mainstream in USA, normal TV will close 2009 in USA, and NTSC is much worse than PAL.
Sales of HDTV in USA are soon close to 30% of population.So the USA Blu ray have an easy fight against DVD.
In Europe we lack HDTV transmissions, we use smaller screens, and PAL do look good.
So it will take longer in Europe. But flatscreens are popular, many are HDTV ready, and you can see the difference.
