The laptop is a Dell 8100. I assume it's just a volume issue? A thought just occured to me as I write this (I hate this getting older thing), as I have an Adcom GTP500 (spare preamp buried in the closet) that I could use as a preamp, and it's got a headphone out. That would probably solve the problem until I can afford to buy a really good headphone preamp.Al
