Your demonstration mirrors my own experience. At the last HES in LA I remember thinking I would gladly pay for a demonstration of a modest source or cartridge and then an expensive one, then the same with phono-preamps, preamps and amps all through a given speaker just to actually hear what the differences were.say $20, considering how much one might save with the knowledge gained it may be well spent.
