Cheapest stand you will ever see with this much gear

Perhaps this belongs in the DIY forum, but, since the subject here is stands, I thought you might like to read about a dirt cheap stand that seems to offer excellent flexibility, very good ventilation and access, freedom from floor transmitted vibration, and resistance to air borne vibration due to its mass. The base consists of two upside-down "soft" plastic waste baskets that cost less than $5 each, filled with a mixture of crumpled newspaper and the expanding uretahne insulating foam used for filling cracks and voids. The shelves are 1-1/4" thick plywood. Between each shelf are four building supply store brick garden edgers, one at each corner of the shelf, turned to rest on their narrow side. Between each brick and the shelf resting on top of it is a small piece of green non-woven plastic pot scrubber material. I didn't keep track of costs, but it's got to be less than $50 total. I have been using this rack for four years. It has supported thousands of dollars worth of tube and SS electronics with a total weight up to 60 pounds, and I have never doubted its integrity, stability, or serviceability. It can be completely disassembled in about five minutes. The only mistake I made was to not put a layer of protective material between the open bottom of the waste baskets, filled with the expanding foam, and my hardwood floor. The solvent in the foam had not completely evaporated, and it goofed up the varnish on the floor. Now it has a layer of heavy cardboard between the foam and the flooring.

I can send a picture to anyone who is interested.

Peace,
Tom E
