The audio asylum should be renamed the debate asylum. While we discuss audio and even debate our opinions about audio it is amazing to me that much more often then you would expect from the general population, the discussion often turns to an intellectual debate over semantics or a point completely unrelated to audio where the participants seem to enjoy “outsmarting†each other. The exception seems to be in propeller head, cables and tweeks. Pro audio and tape trail seem to argue the least.
My theory is that this phenomenon is the result of the above average IQ of audiophiles. As a result of this intelligence audiophiles find academic debate stimulating. What I don’t understand is why audiophiles also include a higher percentage of their group then the general population of people that are “stuck upâ€.
Now don’t debate me on this and prove my point. I have been an audiophile for 30 years and I “know†it’s true. Never the less I have met some really fine people associated with audio. Got to go listen now.
