Re: i don't think the problem is with your system, and...

may not even be a problem at all. If you consider that pop music is a commodity that is designed for instant consumption/disposal with an intended 'shelf life' of 3 months, how do we expect it to stand the test of time? Kind of like fast food, it creates hunger rather than satisfying it.

None of it is on the level of Beethoven, and perhaps we shouldn't attempt to equate the two.

That said, I too vastly enjoy good musical hooks and well recorded, well conceived pop music....in all idioms. Including hip hop, trance, electronica, alt country, bluegrass, jazz, blues, soul, progressive and many others. I seldom purchase old music on disc, nor do I listen to 'oldies' radio programming. If I NEVER hear 'Stairway to Heaven' it will be too soon for me. I would much rather spend my limited time and resources listening to something more substantial, creative and/or new. At least trying.

As with movies, do you want to see something new, or just re-runs of the same old 'gems'? Every day new artists create something new and exciting, and I would hate to miss that.

It would seem that your system is not the problem. More like your tastes are evolving/maturing....and that's a good thing. Enjoy the journey.

BTW 33 is anything but old, and you should take full advantage of that...while you can. And Buddy Guy's 'Things I Used To Do' IS worth repeated listening. :)
