If you're handy ... pull the top cover, then clean and lubricate the rails the laser asy. travels on.In an older machine the grease on the rails can dry up, and cause the laser sled to bind, and lose lock with the CD ... that's when she skips.
Have faith ... change the oil (lubricate the rails ) and i'll bet you get another 100,000 miles outa her.
