Seems like changing taste could be at the root cause,

along with some other suggestions made here. I still love, and listen to, rock from the 60s and 70s (as an old fart nearly double your age) but it is selective. With some of that era music, I now wonder why I was ever interested.

One point some have made I would seriously question. That is the need for extended bass (i.e. a subwoofer) to enjoy rock. I think much of rock is satisfied by drive and emphasis in the 60-120 Hz range. After all, consider the mass market systems used by most listeners for this music. Also, the E string on a bass is 42 Hz (with fundamentals at 84 Hz and above) so this is the absolute bottom for most rock bands. Exceptions can certainly be found in synthesizers but for standard guitar/bass/drums instrumentation, 42 is the lower limit. Systems with a boost in the mid and upper bass range may sound more pleasing to most listeners. Your KEFs may be too flat/neutral, even with the addition of your REL.
