Yes: avoid used active cables.

I know some folks who destroyed several thousand dollars' worth of electronics with a 'demo' active cable that one fellow got cheap from a dealer. This was not Audioquest, but was a real brand, not DIY. The cable had been twisted at one end and when it failed, it applied the bias voltage to the signal conductor. Luckily, the amp destroyed itself before the speaker was damaged.

The cable damage was not apparent until it was disassembled.
