Re: What exactly are you asking here?

Your right about rock creatively dying... the stuff I listened to just ran out of steam one day. I can listen to the old albums and enjoy them but the newer stuff from the same people is no longer the real deal. I still love a good rock riff and still get that old familiar feeling when I find a new one. I got a bit of a kick from a Kasabian track the other day... wasn't looking for it, it just crept up... and it felt good.

I can still pull out some of the old tunes and enjoy listening to them, but maybe not in the same way as I would when I listen to ballet. They are different music for different occasions.

But drag out some PIL and have Jah Wobble gently shake the room, or not so gently.....still does it for me.

But the compression thing does seem to be the thing that wrings alot of joy out of the sound. But as you suggested, I have an OK system and it copes with alot of things and makes a good attempt at any half sensible recording.

Must still be plenty of good 'new' stuff about though...

Enjoy,

K
