What exactly are you asking here?

I don't mean to "smart" or "glib" with that question; but...

Are you asking if we no longer like our old rock tunes?

Or, are you asking if we don't like our old tunes cause they're recorded bady?

Or, are you asking if our systems don't play the songs well?

Or, are you asking if rock is dead?

1. I still dig my old tunes! Yeah, - Big Black were awesome. Still listen to Gang of Four, Killing Joke, PIL, the Clash and the lot.

2. Yeah, - many are recorded badly, - but there are some that are being reissued that are pucker!! The Replacements re-issues are awesome. Gang of Four re-issues aren't that bad, and some Clash too. Love renewed!!! Yeah, - there's lots that are compressed, but a really good playback system can mitigate that to some degree...

3. My system does a good job (IMO) of playing all types of music, - including fast, deep, techno bass kick drums and bass...

4. Rock sort of died a long time ago for me, in it's creative sense. I am not going to include a band like Groove Armada as rock. NIN, Mogwai, and Sigur Ros I do include in that category and they are "fresh" rock IMO... If you're talking Classic Rock like the Stones, Tom Petty, or the Who, - well yeah, - that stuff is more like a parody of itself than something new: ie. a new Tom Petty album can't be called a new Tom Petty album, - let someone else have a go...

Cheers,
