Re: The value of a dealer audition

The only thing I audition at a dealers is speakers and then that is to only get a taste of whether they are candidates. You still don't know how they will sound in your room. I am in the camp that believe the speaker and room make up 95% of the sound. It makes no sense to me to audition components at a dealers. How can you possibly tell how THAT component sounds if you are not familiar with those speakers in that room? You have to listen to the component in your system.

I really get a laugh out of show reports when the reviewer says something like amp xyz sounded incredible... How can a reviewer conclude that when that was the first time he has heard that speaker in that room set up that way for that show?
