Disagree. Lose emotion? If anything I'd say it's the opposite.I think players trained from a 'rock' perspective often can't or at least don't know how to hit less hard than they do without screwing up their time. But I'd say that the dynamics of drums as an instrument isn't something that's going to suffer much from softening up the approach. In fact, if it forces the players of amplified string instruments such as guitars to bring down their volume, it can do wonders.
