Best Options for Computer Based Audio on a Budget

I would like to see people experiment with satallite/ sub computer speaker packages and report on thier sound quality. With all the rage being the Sonic Impact T-amp, I would like those familiar with it's sound to take away thier prejudices and report on other cheap IC amps of conventional design. I have come to realize that most of these computer sat/sub packages can sound excellent if you throw away the cheap satellite speakers and use higher quality ones connected to the amp/sub. This is probably because of the simplicity of the circuits even if they use cheap ic's. I have a $79 Cambridge Audio Sub/sattelite combo I bought years ago, I threw out the sattelites and hooked up some old Mirage speakers, I really enjoy this for it's dynamics, pace and rythm, BUT a truely high quality source MUST be used, otherwise thier is high frequency hash. Anybody wanting to leap into the high-end game should try this type of solution. I found the speakers at Goodwill for $40 and hooked the Cambridge Sub/amp to a portable cd player, as soon as I started running the portable cd player on battery power rather than the wall wort, the sound immediatly lost all hash and was smooth and dynamic. I own Magnepan 1.5's with VTL amps by the way, so I understand what to listen for. I find this system more fun, who the hell wants a dedicated audio room anymore? I'm sick of listening without any other form of entertainment, so the computer near field monitor solution has been my preferrence for the last two years. Try this, report on your experiences. I will be buying a non oversampling dac for the computer soon, all my cd's are being converted to Apple Lossless on the hard-drive and I'm slowly forgetting about the big system in the living room!
